Betty J. Grupe, 80, village of Cleveland resident, went home to her Lord, on Friday September 5, 2014, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Center, Sheboygan Falls, with her family at her side. She was born in Sheboygan on July 3, 1934, the daughter of the late Erwin and Helen Thorsell Rohde.

Betty graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, the Class of 1952. On May 2, 1953, she was united in marriage to Clarence G. Grupe at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan, and the couple resided in Cleveland. The marriage was blessed with four children. Betty was employed for many years at the Cleveland Coop, and retired from Younkers Department Store in Sheboygan. She was a member of St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cleveland, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Betty was also a member of local homemakers club and the Melody Dance Club. Her interests included listening to Country and Polka music, and playing cards with several area card clubs. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her husband, Clarence of Cleveland; two sons, Tom (Colleen) Grupe and David Grupe and his special friend, Colleen Dunn, both of Cleveland; two daughters, Patti Grupe and her special friend, Jim Kettler of Cleveland; and Susan (Joe) Suprick of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Amy Grupe and her special friend, Robert, Josh (Danielle) Grupe, Amber (James) Mann, Jerad (Melissa) Grupe, Caitlyn Grupe, Danielle Suprick, and Joey Suprick; two brothers, Marvin (Gail) Rohde of Sheboygan, and Erwin Jr. (Doris) Rohde of Branson, MO: two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Vernon (Carol) Grupe, Earl (Carol) Grupe, Caroline Wieland and her special friend Adolf, and Joyce (Francis) Lulloff.

Preceding Betty in death are one brother, Willard (Shirley) Rohde and one sister, Marion (Norman) Meier and one sister-in-law, Janice Rohde.

Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2014, at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1255 West Washington Ave., Cleveland. Pastor David Endorf will officiate and burial will follow at St. Johns Graveyard (Kassa Cemetery) in Town Centerville. Friends may call at the church on Friday, September 12, 2014, from 3 p.m. until the hour of service.

The Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel of Cleveland is assisting the family with these funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Betty's name for St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kumar and the staff from the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center in Sheboygan, and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center staff and volunteers for all of their gracious care and comfort.
