Anthony the son of Lessie Jones of Miami, and Arthur Jones, also of Miami Florida; enlisted in he US Marine Corps on April 10, 1968 in Coral Gables. He arrived in Vietnam on March 15, 1969 where he was assigned for duty and served with Company G, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month of May the Battalion continued to conduct assigned combat operations in the vicinity of the Da Nang vital area in Quang Nam Province.

On May 5, a Platoon Patrol Base 6 kilometers northeast of Dien Ban near the hamlet of Cam Sa (1) came under an enemy attack. A Barrage of enemy 82mm mortar fire hit the Marines position followed by heavy M-79 and automatic weapons fire, a reaction force was quickly dispatched to reinforce the men. Four men were killed during the action and several were wounded, one of the casualties was PFC Anthony Jones who was killed in the action by the hostile mortar fire.
