Caroline Burkart

Caroline M. Burkart, age 88, a Manitowoc resident, entered into eternal life on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Caroline was born on September 8, 1922 in New Rochelle, New York to the late Frank and Anna Mazzula Aiello. She graduated from Neenah High School with the class of 1940. Caroline then went on to attend Oshkosh State Teachers College and Silver Lake College. In April of 1944, Caroline married John F. Burkart at St. Margaret St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha. John preceded her in death on September 25, 1979. She had a passion for teaching and taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Reedsville, St. Joseph’s Catholic School Alverno, St. Michael’s Catholic School in Whitelaw, St. Mary’s Catholic School in Clarks Mills, and was also a teacher’s aid at Riverview School. Once Caroline retired, she then became an academic tutor at St. Francis Cabrini Middle School. Caroline was a very dedicated Green Bay Packer fan.

Survivors include four daughers: Sandi Ranzau, Sun City, AZ; Carol (Bob) Netzler, Manitowoc; Vicki (Will) Behnke, Marshall; and Angela (Bob) McMahon, Madison; four grandchildren: Scott (Tammy) Ranzau, Matt (Darlene) Ranzau, Michelle (Thomas) Netzler, and Jon Netzler and his special friend Lisa Gierke; five great grandchildren; one sister: Ann Neumeyer, DePere; one step granddaughter: Joy (Eric) Brunke; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, February 18, 2011 at St. Francis Assisi – Marshall from 10 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. The Rev. Daniel Viertel will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to St. Francis of Assisi School – Cabrini.
