A private funeral and burial services for Marlene Theresa Manning, 46, of Madison, Wis., were held on May 13. A recognition of her professional life will be held by her co-workers at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, in Warner Park, Madison.

Born Sept. 7, 1961, in Elgin, the daughter of Philip and Mary Lou Manning, she passed away Friday, May 9, 2008, in Madison.

Marlene was a 1979 graduate of Dundee High School. In 1982, she graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Dental Hygiene with an associate's degree. Her education continued at Northern Michigan University in Marquette Michigan where she earned a bachelor's of science degree in health education in 1989. For her master's degree, Marlene attended the University of New Mexico, where she graduated in 1992, with her degree in community health education. Marlene greatly valued education, having returned to college to earn her bachelor's and master's degrees in public health education after an initial career as a dental hygienist. As the Dane County Public Health Coordinator, she worked tirelessly to help improve the dental health and welfare of the children of Dane County. Area school children loved visits from her dressed as the tooth fairy at Halloween. Marlene loved nature and the outdoors, and she was especially fond of water and swimming. There were no better days for her than soaking up the sun on a sandy beach or splashing about with her nieces and nephews.

Marlene is survived by her loving parents; three sisters, her twin, Monica (Reid) Olson of Fairbanks, Ala., Deborah (Barry) Conatser of Arlington, S.D. and Margaret (Henry) Van Acker of Union; two brothers, Thomas (Eileen) Manning of Huntley and Wayne (Joanna) Manning of Woodstock; her loving companion, Matt Treadaway; and her loving and adoring nieces and nephews, Grant and Hannah Olson, Courtney, Katie, Callie and Kelsey Conatser, Kellie and Mckenna VanAcker, Ann, Maggie, Mary Kate and Elizabeth Manning, and Allison, Ryan, Erin, Danny and Patrick Manning.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to her nieces and nephews education fund, c/o the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, P.O. Box 74, Huntley, IL 60142.
