Charlotte Lockwood Cox, 96, passed away November 21, 2003. Born in Douglas AZ, the daughter of the late Alfred C. Lockwood and his wife, Daisy Maude Lincoln Lockwood, an Arizona pioneer family. Charlotte graduated with distinction from the University of Arizona. Charlotte married attorney Z. Simpson Cox in 1934. They lived an active life together for 58 years. She was co-founder of Cox Commercial College in Tucson; co-owner of the Coffee Cottage Donut Shoppe in the first mall in Phoenix (Town Fair) with her sister, Lorna E. Lockwood. Charlotte was a Writer for a Syndicated Travel Column; president - Beatitudes Aux; member of the Am. Assn. of University Women; frequent P.T.A president; Phoenix Urban League - secretary & board member; member of Dudettes Jaycee Womens' Aux; president of DeMolay Mothers' Club; Citizens Advisory Committee for Adult Living; candidate for Phoenix City Council; taught English to non-English speaking adults; Religious Education Committee at First Congregational Church; founding & charter member of the Church of the Beatitudes; member of United Fund, Salvation Army, Red Cross and March of Dimes. Charlotte is survived by her five children: Alfred, Stephen, David and Alan Cox; and her daughter, Noel Cox Caniglia; 8 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. Charlotte will be remembered for her gentle strength, her keen intelligence, and her selfless commitment to helping others. There will be a brief memorial service on Saturday, December 6, 2003 at the Church of the Beatitudes, 550 W. Glendale, Phoenix at 1:00 p.m. The family requests donations in Charlotte's name to go to your own favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
