David A. "Tattoo" Herrera
(Nov. 23, 1936 - Sept. 13, 2015)

David (Tattoo), a longtime Page, Arizona resident, went on his final flight in the early hours of September 13, 2015 in his home he built in the early 1970s. Family and friends were present by his side during his long and courageous battle with cancer.

Dave was born on November 23, 1936 in Delta, Colorado, to Nash A. Herrera and Sarah Jane (Cortez) Herrera. The family moved to Clearfield, Utah, when dad was the age of 16. Dave attended school in Weber and Davis counties. He joined the U.S.M.C. from 1953-1956 at the young age of 17, where he became a Rifleman Specialist. Dad was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged with all honors.

Dave met and married the love of his life, Mary (Arcelia) Lujan, while being employed at the D.D.O. in Clearfield in 1956. He and his wife raised their children: four sons, David R. (Kathy), of West Haven, Utah, Douglas P. (Cathy), Richard B. (Dellana), Mathew A. (Kimberly), all of Page, AZ, one daughter, Teresa “Teri” (Mark) Thornton, of Phoenix, and infant son, Lewis A. Herrera, in Clearfield Utah.

Dave moved his family to Page in 1973 to continue his employment at that time building homes for John Purser & Sons. He later was employed by S.R.P Navajo Generating Station where he retired. Dave was longtime member of the Elks Lodge and NRA.

Anyone who knew our father certainly knew of his passion and love for hunting, fishing and camping, four wheeling, gardening and bowling. He also enjoyed taking friends and family boating and water skiing on Lake Powell.

Dave had a kind and gentle soul and developed many lasting friendships wherever he went. He had a great love for his cat, Meow. He will be greatly missed by many.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years; five children; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances (Bernie) Salazar, Delores (Louis) Martinez, Christine Jessop, Marylou Mayer; many loved nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Wes Colvin.

He was preceded in death by both parents; his infant son Lewis A. Herrera; brother-in-law Dennis Mayer; nephews Michael and Christopher Mayer, Mark Hansen; and nieces, Stephanie White and Amber Stein.

Memorial services will be held in Page, AZ, at the Elks Lodge on September 26, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Services will be held in Clearfield, Utah, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Dave's children are accepting donations made in memory of their father if anyone wishes to.
