Norwood Francis “Chubby” Hymel, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the age of 89.

Beloved husband of 48 years to Patricia Gibson Hymel, loving father of Rebecca Hymel Moore (Jeffrey), and brother of Robert Paul Hymel (Eloise).

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Elizabeth Anne Hymel, his parents Winfred Julius Hymel, Sr., and Gladys Siener Hymel, brother Winfred Julius Hymel, Jr., and sister, Thyria Hymel Dannemann.

Chubby attended Holy Cross High School and received a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Tulane University. He spent his entire career as a consulting engineer at Fromherz Engineers, from which he retired as a Vice President. In 1965, he served as President of the American Society of Civil Engineers New Orleans Branch, and as President of the Louisiana Section in 1973. Chubby served in the United States Navy and retired as Commander from the Naval Reserve in 1986.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans on Thursday, September 24, 2015.

Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum
