Gonia, Betty (Keip)

Betty (Keip) Gonia, age 86, a lifelong resident of Two Rivers and current resident of the Hamilton Home of Two Rivers, passed away on Friday morning, September 18, 2015 at the Hamilton Home.

Betty was born on February 2, 1929 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Edward and Sylvia (Wegner) Keip. She attended schools in Two Rivers and was a graduate of Washington High School. On April 23, 1949 she married Patrick F. Gonia at St. Luke Catholic Church in Two Rivers. Pat preceded her in death on November 30, 2012. Pat and Betty were the owners of Gonia's Bar for many years where they worked side by side. Betty was well known for her "Betty Burgers." She was always busy, her hands never idle. Betty and Pat's greatest passion was spending time together and with their family. They always offered words of encouragement and understanding.

Survivors include her children: Louise (Fred) Schmoock, Mary (Tom) Owens, Sue Dekok, Rick (Sagina) Gonia; nine grandchildren: Anne (Todd) Denfeld, Kimberly (Kevin) Sand, Joshua Schmoock, Jennifer (Al) Hendrickson, TJ (Kerri) Owens, Kari Vieau and special friend Randy Reimer, Ed (Jessica) Dekok, Emily (Jake) Keeling and Luke Gonia; 12 great grandchildren: Amanda, Stephanie, Mackenzie, Katie, Kylie, Angela, Casey, Madelyne, Mason, Myles, Brody and Reis; one great granddaughter: Aubree. She is also survived by nieces, other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother and sister-in-law: Edward and Dolores Keip Jr.; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Frank and Marie Gonia; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Kenny and MaryAnn LaBudda, Roland Gonia, Phyllis and Edward Bloch.

Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Maurice Mmegbuadimma with burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers, at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers, and All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to thank all the staff and caregivers at the Hamilton Home of Two Rivers for all the care and compassion shown to Betty and her family.

Mom was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother. Family was always her highest priority.

Her love and guidance will be with us always. Mom will be in our hearts every day.
