Katherine Mae Myers Stout, age 101, went to be with her Lord and beloved family members on September 23, one day after celebrating her birthday with her family and friends at her home in Gowdy.

She was born Septmber 22, 1914 in Anderson Township, Rush County, the fourth of six children of William J. "Willie" and Mary M. Aldridge Myers. She attended Webb School until its closing in 1928, then went to Milroy High School where she graduated in 1933.

She married the love of her life, Ray Stout, on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1935 in Milroy United Presbyterian Parsonage by Rev. W. Guy Hamilton. Ray preceded her in death on October 15, 1978.

They moved to her current residence in Gowdy on New Year's Day, 1938. To this union were born two sons, Richard Eugene (Dick) Stout on November 21, 1939 and Larry Lee Stout on December 16, 1943, Dick preceded her in death on August 25, 1982 while working in Epcot Center in Florida.

She was a 84-year old member of the Big Flatrock Christian Church, having joined under Rev. George H. Holwager on March 27, 1931 and baptized in the Big Flatrock River on March 29 of that year. Her and her beloved father walked to the church every Sunday Morning, a distance of two miles. She served many years as the little kid' Sunday School teacher. She also has served as clerk of the church since January 28, 1968, being the only woman on the church board until recent years. She was made Deaconess Emeritus in 2004 on her 90th birthday. She was a long-time member of the original Dorcas Circle organization of the Big Flatrock Christian Church, having several various office positions.

She worked at the Milroy Canning Company, setting tomato plants in the spring and working on the assembly line in the fall. She worked there prior to the birth of her sons and returned to work there after her youngest son graduated from high school. She refused to work while her boys were in school; she didn't believe in not being home when they got home from school. Her main job, however, was that of a homemaker and a wonderful cook, following in the footsteps of her mother for making the best chicken and noodles and yeast biscuits in the area. She loved her family, having restarted the Myers and Aldridge reunions that her parents had started many years earlier.

She was a loyal member of the Democrat Party, having converting her husband after he got a job working on the state highway building bridges during the depression under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom she considered the greatest president of all time. Then Secretary of State Joe Hogsett made her Honorary Secretary of State on her 80th birthday in 1994. She was a charter member of Rush County Heritage, attending all meetings to save the covered bridges of Rush County as well as selling t-shirts and other items at the Moscow Covered Bridge Festival and Rush County Fair.

She loved country music, having made annual trips to Nashville, Tennessee, for almost 40 years. On one of those trips. she personally presented to Faron Young at his home a personalized homemade whirly-gig that her husband Ray had made for him. She was Indiana State Representative for the Loretta Lynn Fan Club for many years, having eaten many meals with Loretta and other reps from around the world. She also hosted back-of-the-stage pitch-in meals for Loretta and her band when they played at the Little Nashville Opry House in Nashville, Indiana. Unable to attend concerts in recent years, she enjoyed listening to the gospel CDs of Alan Jackson and Daniel O'Donnell.
