Eckert resident Ruth Mason Phillips passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 at her residence in Eckert, Colorado. She was 100 years of age.
Ruth Mason was born on July 19, 1915 to Frank Wood and Nina (Lamont) Mason in Albion, New York. She spent her childhood and attended school in Albion, graduating from Albion High School in 1933. Ruth furthered her education at Cornell University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1937.
On November 16, 1940, Ruth married Arthur M. Phillips, Jr. in Albion, New York. To this union two children were born. The couple had the honor of sharing 46 years of love and marriage before Arthur passed away in November 1986 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Ruth moved to Cedaredge, Colorado in 2001 and to Eckert in 2006.
Ruth was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Delta, Colorado. She was the founder of the Senior Hikers in Cedaredge, and was also member of the DAR in Charlottesville, Virginia. Ruth enjoyed hiking and traveling around the world.
Ruth is survived by a son, Arthur M. Phillips III (Janice) of Eckert, CO; and a daughter, Frances Phillips Lazear (Greg) of Cedaredge, CO.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Albert L. Mason; and sister, A. Louise Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Delta, Colorado.
