Newell E. Layton, 72, died July 15, 1993 at his home in Sacramento, Calif., after a long illness.
He was born January 18, 1921, in Layton, a son of Leo H. Layton and Minnie Simmons Layton. Mr. Layton settled in Sacramento 45 years ago. He retired from California Highway Patrol in 1984. Married Betty in 1950. Mr. Layton was a member of the LDS Church. He served an LDS mission to New York State. He served as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop #251 during the 1960's.
Survived by his wife of 43 years; children: two sons, including Garen Layton, and one daughter, all of Sacramento; sisters, Maxie Larson and Sarah Stoddard, both of Clearfield; and four grandchildren.
A memorial was held Thursday, July 22, 1993, at East Lawn Memorial Park in Sacramento.
