Virginia Katherine Okes
Virginia Katherine Okes, 83, of Daniels, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. Rawn Sr. and Helen P. Bowker Rawn, and her husband, Karl J. Okes, who passed away July 13, 1983.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Okes was a homemaker, and spent her life volunteering at several area nursing homes, and working the polls during elections. Before becoming ill, she was actively involved in the Midway First Church of God, teaching Sunday school classes and as a director of VBS. She was a member of the Shady Spring Women's Club.
She will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Sandra Andrychowski and her husband, Bernie, of Fortville, Ind., Sherry Wooldridge and her husband, Frank, of Charleston, Duke Okes and his wife, Nancy, of Blountville, Tenn., and Roger Okes and his wife, Linda, of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Roger and Jeff Wyatt, Andrew and Matthew Okes; and two great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
