Elijah Daniel McPherson was a son of Daniel McPherson and Susannah Kincheloe McPherson of Tennessee. As a young man, Elijah Daniel worked on ships for several years which sailed to foreign ports. This enabled him to obtain a knowledge of other languages, including French, Spanish, and Portugese. He was an educated man as a result of his studies, travels, and experiences. Elijah Daniel served in the War of 1812 and helped survey the site for the City of Chicago. He married Sarah Ann Small in 1826 in Rhea Co., TN. Elijah Daniel and Sarah later settled in Carroll Co., GA where he owed a large farm, Buck Creek Plantation, with water-powered mills for grain and lumber. Elijah Daniel played many stringed musical instruments, including the violin. The McPhersons raised a large family, including my great, great grandmother, Louiza.

Elijah Daniel and Sarah had twelve children:

Barton "Barten" McPherson, b. 1828
Emily McPherson, b. 1829
Amanda, b. 1830; died in childhood.
William Nelson "Cap" McPherson, b. 1832
Louisa "Louiza" McPherson, b. 1834
Mary Ann McPherson, b. 1836
Charles Lafayette McPherson, b. 1838; d. 1839.
Elijah Houston McPherson, b. 1841
Charles Lewin McPherson, b. 1844
Henry Livingston McPherson, 1846
Delphia McPherson, b. 1848
John "Jack" Howell McPherson, b. 1850
