OBITUARY: "Jake" Helmer
Jacob David Helmer, the son of Jacob and Salomina (Xanke) Helmer, was born at Tangier, Oklahoma, on June 28, 1913, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on December 18, 1995, at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 5 days.
At the age of 3, his family moved to Goodrich, North Dakota.
On July 5, 1935, he was united in marriage to Tabea Fandrich, at Goodrich, North Dakota. They had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He was a pilot, and a farmer and rancher. In 1961, they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and in 1968, they moved to Phillips, Nebraska, where they continued to reside at the time of his death. Jake was a long time custom harvester, following the harvest from Oklahoma to North Dakota, from 1957 to 1977, and he continued to help his son Roger for several years thereafter.
Jake was a member of the Aurora Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Marie; one brother William, and one great grand daughter Amanda.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Tabea, who resides at the Memorial Care Center in Aurora; 3 sons, Kenneth and his wife Lois of Mandan, North Dakota, Roger and his wife Denise of Phillips, and Dennis and his wife Laurene of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one dauthter Lora Norton of Helena, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Harry of Seattle, Washington, and Duane of Lynnwood, Washington; 9 grandchildren, Lonnie Helmer of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Russell Helmer of Grand Island, Lee Ann Joseph of Grand Island, Sherry Wheeler of Phillips, Carmen Helmer of Polsom, Montana, Chris Norton, Travis Norton and Ryan Norton all of Helena, Oklahoma, and Ashley Helmer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and 9 great great grandchildren.
