Cox, Alice Marie,

95, returned to her Heavenly Father and to be reunited with her beloved husband, Prof. William D. Cox Jr., whom she met and married while in college at Tennessee State University. She was the apple of her husband's eye. She passed September 27, 2015 at Rivers Edge Nursing Home, where she has resided since becoming disabled. She had moved to Louisville, KY, where she was cared for by her son, William D. Cox III.

She was the former Alice Marie Sales, born in Huntsville, AL, September 10, 1920. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Henry Hastings. Mrs. Cox was a retired elementary school teacher with the Nashville, TN, public school system. Mrs. Cox received her Bachelors and Master's degree in Education from Tennessee State University. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Alumni Chapter in Nashville, TN where she remained active until becoming ill.

Survivors include her loving son, William Dury Cox III (La Verne); four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, other cousins in Nashville, TN and Huntsville, AL; and a host of Delta Sigma Theta family and friends.

Mrs. Cox became a member of her son's Louisville church family; West Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. A visitation will be held in Louisville, KY at the A.D. Porter Funeral Home, 1300 West Chestnut Street from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday evening. A celebration of Mom's life will be held in Nashville, TN.at her home church "Pleasant Green Baptist Church" 1410 Jefferson Street, Nashville, TN, 37208 on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 12 p.m. with burial alongside of her husband, Professor W. Dury Cox Jr. to follow in the Nashville Military Cemetery, located at 1420 Gallatin Road. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Pleasant Green Baptist Church from 11 a.m. - 12 noon Friday.
