Gladys La Rue “Booboo” Storey passed away, succumbing to a long battle with cancer, at 7:05 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6 in her home, while surrounded and comforted by both of her children. La Rue was 78 years old.
La Rue was born in the town of Selma, Ala. on Feb. 15, 1937. She was the third child, second daughter of Harry and Minnie Storey. She was raised in Selma and graduated from Parrish High School, where she enjoyed being a majorette.
She continued her education at Touro in New Orleans, where she received her degree as a registered nurse in 1959. She served as a nurse in Salt Lake City, Utah, New York City and Baldwin County, Ala. for over 50 years.
Her other passions included gourmet cooking and catering, her beach life in Gulf Shores and all of her friends and family.
La Rue is survived by her two children, Lou Ann Bierwert and James A. Pickens; her sister, Dorothy L. Foster; and a large, but close-knit, extended family of grandchildren, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Ala. at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Springhill HHC and Hospice of Baldwin County, 25558 Friendship Road, Suite A, Daphne, AL 36526.
