Tobias George Painter; born in Dec 1798, Westmoreland Co. PA; was of German descent; married Catherine Painter, a daughter of George Painter, in PA; Catherine also born in PA about 1804.

Tobias G. & Catherine moved west about 1830 and first settled at Beardstown, IL; moved to this county a few months later; lived with the William Pennington family for one winter. They lived a short while in section 8, Industry Twp.; then moved to Spring Creek area in Emmet Twp.

At the time of his death Mr. Painter was the owner of about 1300A of land in this area. Catherine, the widow of Tobias George Painter, died in 1893.

The Painters had 7 children: Isabel; Henry A.; John F.; Francis Marion; George B.; Jacob L.; and Mary Ann. Isabel married Thomas Head of Sciota. Mary Ann married Hezekiah Kline; Francis Marion married Josephine Kitch.
