Barbara Jean Bruno, (born April 9, 1949) passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.

A loving wife, mother, sister, and daughter, she continued serving her community and cared tirelessly for her family despite her own deteriorating health. Earning three Master's degrees, including graduating from Army War College, Barbara was an accomplished nurse and retired after 28 years of service as a Colonel and Deputy Chief of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She had been highly decorated including being awarded the Legion of Merit twice. Barbara was well respected in the military, nursing, and education communities and was a member of multiple organizations such as Association of Operating Room Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau, and Phi Kappa Phi. Barbara was passionate with everything in her life; from the energy and love she gave to her husband and family, advocating for educational reform for nurses, volunteering at the AMEDD Medical Museum, and raising orchids and her French Bulldogs.

She is survived by her husband, John Bruno; her children, Andrew Bruno (Kim) and Liza Ernst (Maurice); her mother, Jutta McMurry; her sister, Nancy Rooney (Matthew); her grandchildren, Brody Bruno, Isabella Ernst, Ethan Ernst; nieces and nephews, Bonnie Rooney, Shawn Rooney, and Joseph Rooney.
