Jan. 1, 1918 as senior instructor; appointed commanding officer Feb. 1; assigned to 322nd Infantry, 81st Division, March 20 and continued duty as commanding officer Officers' Training School; detailed to Officers' Training School, Camp Sevier, N.C., May 1 in same capacity; assumed command 3rd Battalion, 322nd Infantry, July 15; sailed for France July 30, 1918; returned to United States November 4; discharged January 6, 1919. Commissioned Lt. Col. Infantry Officers' Reserve Corps. Engagement: Saint-Dié sector.
