MY BELOVED SISTER-IN-LAW

VIRGINIA was the daughter of LEVI and RETTIE SIMMONS. She was born in Lindsay, Oklahoma, as was her siblings; the oldest being WILEY "Pete" (nickname he was called by the immediate family only); MARVIN, and JOLLY.

One day when WILEY was a little over six years old; VIRGINIA, MARVIN and JOLLY being younger, their dad's car was hit by another vehicle when he was returning home from his job for the weekend. LEVI was killed instantly at 25 years of age.

VIRGINIA along with her mom RETTIE, and her brothers, lived with her grandma and grandpa SIMMONS after the death of her father; but I'm not certain how long. Eventually, RETTIE remarried a man by the last name of CLAYTON, and the family moved from Oklahoma to California.

After VIRGINIA'S husband CARL CHENAULT died, she and her mother RETTIE lived in a local nursing home in Lindsay, California, for at least several years before they passed. They were very happy living at the nursing home, because they really liked the facility, the folks who resided there, and especially the staff who worked there. They were so pleased to have rooms located across the hall from one another, so they enjoyed visiting back and forth every day, looking in on each other and eating meals together.

RETTIE and VIRGINIA'S health started failing more and more as time went along. They went home to the Lord only a few months apart; VIRGINIA going first and then "Mom Clayton" following not long after. They were ready, looking forward to seeing many family members who had passed on. RETTIE was looking forward to seeing her precious son "Pete" (Wiley to me), who had died May 1, 1998, in a hospital in Springfield, Oregon.

I traveled from Oregon to Lindsay, California, many times after WILEY passed, staying with RETTIE several weeks at a time; just being with her and taking her out to eat. We would go visiting, seeing a lot of VIRGINIA and her family. RETTIE'S favorite food to go get was, hamburgers, tacos, Chinese food, or a delicious hot dog. Oh, and did I mention ice-cream cones? She did love her ice-cream!

Please visit RETTIE CLAYTON's memorial listing and, of course, her son WILEY SIMMONS, my late husband. Thank you very much. It means a lot to me and their families.
