Loyd Whitaker, Jr. 89, of Traverse City, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 25, 2015. He was a faithful student and spent most of his time studying God’s word.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Ludena (Caudill) Whitaker; daughter Marcia; brothers Harold, Van, Jay W.; and sisters Miriam, Maxie, Irene, Geneva and Bobbie Jean.
Loyd will be greatly missed by his loving wife Aleta of 26 years; sons Thomas ad Edwin; grandchildren Caleb, Desiree, and Carrie; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother Carl and a sister Margaret. He was “grandfather” to Emma, Paul, Ross, Kate and Anna Vought.
Loyd was born on March 26, 1926 in Roxanna, Kentucky. He lived there until he moved to Michigan and worked for General Motors, Cadillac and Livonia. After retirement in 1981, he moved to Frankfort and enjoyed having his family visit. He loved his family and spent many hours fishing, boating and hunting with them. Loyd and Aleta later moved to Beulah and Traverse City.
He proudly served his Country and received a Purple Heart for his injury in the Battle of the Bulge.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, October 1 at the Bible Baptist Church, 1915 Cass Road. Pastor Joel Brown will conduct the service. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.
