The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Dowagiac, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by the McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, Dowagiac, Memorials may be made to the church, to Cass County Council on Aging or the ALS Association of West Michigan.
Mrs. Hempstead was born April 26, 1911, in Dowagiac, and was a lifelong resident. She retired in 1976 from First National Bank, Niles, where she was a bank teller for 21 years. Survivors include two daughters; Sally Hempstead of Dowagiac and Mary Hempstead of Elkhart, Ind.; one son, Joseph of Grand Rapids; and two grandchildren.
