Mary Elizabeth Clifton was the second of eight children born to Joseph Clifton and Anna K Heath.

She married 31 Mar 1867 to Oscar Oliver "Merritt" Olmstead, Jr., at Prophetstown, Whiteside County, Illinois. They had these children:
