L. Christine "Chris" Dowling, 55, Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on June 2, 1952, in Greenfield, she was the daughter of James E. and Rosemary (McQuade) Dowling, who survive.

She graduated from Greenfield-Central High School in 1970. She received a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in Lafayette in 1974 and later received a master's degree from Ball State University in Muncie. Ms. Dowling was a fourth grade teacher at St. Michael's Catholic School in Greenfield for 33 years. She was a member of Bradley United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Alpha Delta Kappa teachers' sorority, and Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa. Ms. Dowling was honored with many awards throughout her teaching career and was an inspiration to others.

She leaves behind her sister, Kathleen Dowling of Greenfield, and many special friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2007, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield. Father Severin Messick will officiate. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to St. Michael's School or to the Christine Dowling Scholarship Fund, c/o Erlewein Mortuary, 1484 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. Envelopes will be available for both contributions at the mortuary, as well.
