Funeral of Elmer Farnsworth
The funeral of Elmer Farnsworth, after being postponed three times waiting for the arrival of his parents, was held Wednesday morning at the Episcopal church. The crowd began to gather early, but the doors were not opened till 10 o'clock, the hour set for the service. The church was much too small to hold the sorrowing friends who had gathered for this last public testimony of sympathy and friendship. The church was beautifully adorned with palms and flowers, and floral emblems and beautiful designs were piled high on casket. The King's Daughters, a church society, sent a beautiful heart, while all the lodges sent beautiful pieces, and many others were unmarked.

The masons, Odd Fellows, Red Men and Eastern Star attended in a body. Rev. R.C. Talbot conducted the services both at church and grave, and the Odd Fellows also held a service at the latter place. The pall bearers were, Messrs. Farringer, Bull and Mogle from the Odd Fellows and Messrs. Hudson, Byers and Wortman, Masons.

Elmer E. Farnsworth was born in Penora, Iowa, April 22, 1868. When seventeen years of age he came to Kansas and settled in Miami county. After living there six months the family removed to Winfield which has since been their home. Mr. Farnsworth attended public schools here awhile and later took a course in business college, and after graduation, went into business with his father in which business they were engaged at the time of his death. In 1895 he was married to Miss Angie Small of Denver, Colorado. A member of the four lodges above mentioned, and the Episcopal church, he was a young man well liked by every one, and admired alike for his business ability and ready friendliness.

He was in a conscious state almost until his death and when told he would not live, calmly considered the matter and gave directions as to his business and other arrangements. He leaves a wife and a baby, father, mother and two sisters to mourn his loss.
