Irvin Casimir Joseph Gackowski, 90 years, of Ocala, Florida went Home to his Lord on Friday, October 2, 2015 from the Legacy House of Ocala. He was born on March 4, 1925 in Chicago, IL. He was the only child of Helen (Konwinski) and Frank Gackowski. His mother passed away when he was five years old, so his grandparents brought him up in a loving home with many doting relatives. Irv attended Lane Tech High School and after joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He served in combat in WWII, earning the purple heart. With his marriage to Clare, Bruce, his only son was born. In June of 1982 he married Mary Biedess Gackowski, in a loving union of 33 years. Over 50 years of Irv’s career as floor layer, he designed many logos and patterns using the jet saw. He was owner and president of two companies; Custom Flooring Insets and CSC Installation Co; both in Itasca, IL. He loved sports, especially baseball and basketball. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and bowler. After retiring in 2000, he and Mary moved to Ocala where he learned to play his atelier organ and sat for hours enjoying all his favorite songs. He also loved music and dancing. Irv is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Mary; son Bruce and his wife Deanne; grandson, Jason and granddaughter Kalyn, sister-in-law Emma Wanamaker and many nieces and nephews. A visitation at the Hiers-Baxley TimberRidge Chapel and a mass the following morning at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala followed by burial at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell with full military honors will be held with specific dates to be announced.
