Austin Barton, 99, Vale, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2004, 38 days short of turning 100. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the Vale Christian Church, with the Rev. Clayne Beck Officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Vale. Services are under the direction of Vale's Lienkaemper Chapel.

Austin was born July 24, 1904, in Butler, Okla., the son of James and Gertie Barton. He was the eldest of eight children. He married Myrtle Lee in 1925, in Elk City, Okla. They had two children, Leroy and Norma Jean. He was a member of Vale Christian Church. Austin had many occupations, working in a candy factory, glass factory, farming, dry cleaning, bowling alley, shipyard, Vale shoe shop and Bureau of Land Management. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and visiting with friends.



Austin is survived by a son, Leroy, Vale; a daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Don Perdue, Nyssa; six grandchildren, Cathy (Jerry) Anderson, Brent (Pam) Barton, Greg (Pam) Perdue, LeAnn (Roland) Davila, Janeen (Larry) Kressly, Renae (Dale) Wilber; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Betty Barton, El Reno, Okla.; one brother, Wilson Barton, Dillwyn, Va; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kendrick, Ventura, Calif.; brother-in-law and wife, Alford and Virginia Lee, Broken Arrow, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Austin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrtle; four brothers, Earl, Tilford, Dewey and Dearl Barton; sister, Marguerite McAfee; and daughter-in-law, Irene Barton.
