Lieut. Colonel Charles Byrne, United States Army, retired, was a native of Vancouver, Washington. He received his commission in the Army in 1877. On March 14, 1908, he retired after 30 years of service in the infantry. In 1898, he was awarded a Silver Star citation for gallantry in action against the Spanish forces at the Battle of Santiago, Cuba. He died at age 77 on Friday, January 6, 1933 in a hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was survived by one sister, Ellen A. Byrne of 2022 N Street in the District of Columbia.
