Actress. She was best known as one of the most stunning, prolific, and versatile, atmosphere players in the history of Hollywood. She made hundreds of appearances on film and television between 1934 and 1989. Among her many roles was that of socialite, housewife, waitress, nurse, secretary, show girl, theater patron , restaurant patron, and party guest. Born Ethelreda Leopold in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Joseph W. Leopold and Gertrude E. McNally. Her father was a composer and vaudevillian. Ethelreda was an experienced, fashion model by her late teens. When she was 17, someone submitted one of her photographs to the casting department at Warner Brothers studios. The executives liked what they saw, and Ethelreda, accompanied by her mother, moved to Hollywood. She began as a chorus girl and dancer in "Dames"(1934) and the "Gold Diggers of 1935". She also appeared in "Out Where The Stars Begin"(1938). Warner Brothers sent her on publicity tours, promoting their Busby Berkeley musicals. While on the road promoting "Gold Diggers in Paris"(1938), she met her husband, Joseph Pine, a hotel executive and restaurant manager. Later, she resigned her Warners contract, and decided to do "bit parts" at all the major studios. She did extra work at the famed, Hal Roach studios, appearing with Laurel & Hardy and Charley Chase. At Columbia Pictures, she appeared in nine, Three Stooges shorts. Among these films were "A Pain in the Pullman"(1936), Back to the Woods"(1937),"Wee Wee Monsieur"(1938) and "Calling All Curs"(1939). She was also prominently featured in "In the Sweet Pie and Pie"(1941), and "G.I. Wanna Home"(1946). At M-G-M, she was an Emerald City manicurist in the "Wizard of Oz"(1939). At Universal, she appeared in W.C. Fields' "You Can't Cheat an Honest Man"(1939), and the Abbott & Costello film, "Pardon My Sarong"(1942). In 1940, she appeared as the blonde secretary in Charlie Chaplin's "The Great Dictator". Ethelreda was an atmosphere player in important films with such luminaries as Humphrey Bogart, Rita Hayworth, and Carole Lombard. She also worked with such famous funnymen as Andy Clyde, Jack Benny, Danny Kaye, and Bob Hope. Ethelreda appeared in two, Hitchcock classics, "The Birds"(1963) and "Topaz"(1967). On television, she appeared in "I Love Lucy", "Life With Lucy","The Twilight Zone", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Bewitched", "Bonanza","I Dream of Jeannie", " Columbo", "It Takes a Thief", "The A-Team", "Happy Days", "Charlie's Angels", and "Married with Children". She was awarded Keys to many cities around the U.S. In later years, she made a commercial with Milton Berle, and was a favorite at the 1990 Three Stooges Convention.
