FAMILY SEARCH. When Edward Clingman Allen was born on 3 February 1916, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, his father, Edward Leonidas Allen, was 25 and his mother, Mildred Hauerbach, was 22. He married Afton Cornaby on 8 April 1939, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. He lived in Salt Lake, Utah in 1940 and Spanish Fork, Utah, Utah in 1950. He died on 5 May 1998, at the age of 82, and was buried in Lake Hills Cemetery, Sandy, Salt Lake, Utah.
PASSAGE. Edward C. Allen died peacefully early on May 9, 1998 from complications related to Parkinson's Disease. This kind and "gentle giant" brought joy and happiness to his family and those who were close to him in his life.
Ed was the oldest of six strong athletic sons born to Edward L. and Mildred Haurbach Allen on February 3, 1916. He married his special lady, Afton Cornaby on April 8, 1939 and was very devoted to her until her death in January of 1998. Ed was a great athlete throughout his life and proud of his accomplishments in his university athletic career where he lettered in four sports and funded his college education with his football scholarship. Later in life he coached church basketball teams and was a referee for local high school athletics. One of Ed's one greatest loves later in life was his hobby of training and racing thoroughbred horses in Utah, Nevada and Washington. The whole family enjoyed a "day at the races with Dad". Those who married Allens became horse racing fans. Ed was a "telephone man" who retired from Mountain Bell after 37 years, where he served in many roles including manager of the local telephone exchanges in Bountiful, Spanish Fork and Park City. His family was his life and from grandchild to his wife, each knew this. Ed was a member of the LDS Church.
He is survived by his children, Clark E. (Julie), of Seattle; Kathy (Paul) Harris, Sandy; and Jeanne Allen of Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Michelle, Edward, Marci, Jeff, Khader; and one great-grandchild, Rachel. Also surviving are brothers, George H. Allen, Salt Lake City; and Robert C. Allen, West Valley City. Preceded in death by brothers, William, James and Gordon; parents; and his beloved wife.
Ed spent his final months in the care of Kathy Baird and her children Nikki, Christa, and Shane. The Bairds were added to the Allen family as official members and much love and appreciation goes to them for the care they gave to Ed and our family.
