Maggie Culver is thought to be the wife of Carlos Fields and the daughter of Virginia Mason (Jennie/Jenny on early census records) Jacobs Culver and William Reed Culver based on a number of pieces of fragmentary but factual evidence. They are: 1) A daughter given the name of Maggie was born to Virginia and William in March 1890 (census data); 2) the 1910 census shows that Carlos is married to a Maggie who was born in 1890 (weak to no evidence that Maggie is the same person); 3) the 1910 census shows a Jesse Culver, age 24, living with Carlos and Maggie (this matches her brother's name and approximate age, thus suggesting a familial link to the Culver family); 4) the 1910 census also shows a Walter Jacobs to be a cousin of Carlos/Maggie. Walter is in fact a 1st cousin 1x removed of Carlos (Carlos and Walter's father are 1st cousins), but Walter is also the nephew of Virginia Culver, Maggie's mother, making Walter and Maggie 1st cousins and suggesting that Carlos and Maggie had probably met previously; 5) Carlos died in 1921 and was buried in plot 39 of Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL. Nineteen years later Maggie's parents were buried adjacent to Carlos in plot 37 (coincidence?). The above facts taken as a whole would suggest that Maggie was married to Carlos and very likely the daughter of Virginia and William Culver. Now, if this analysis is correct and the reader has understood the familial relationships presented, you will come to realize that Carlos and Maggie are 1st cousins 1x removed. Carlos' mother Mary and Maggie's grandfather Daniel were 1st cousins. As seen in Maggie's brother's (William) death notice, Maggie's last name is Watts in 1950 and lives in Indiana. Many thanks to BJJ for taking the time to explore the burial site and to provide the pictures.
