Albert E Mathews was born in Ireland he first married Anastasia Bryina. They came to the States arriving in New York on May 29, 1853.

Albert was married two times his first wife Anastasia (Bergin) died in Milford on March 16, 1882. They married in Worcester, Massachusetts on June 5, 1859.

He then married Fanny (Bradley) Dolan on January 28, 1866 in Milford. She died in Brockton, Massachusetts on May 20, 1907.

Albert served with Company D 26th NY Reg during the Civil war, he rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
