A 9-year-old Effingham County boy has died at a Savannah hospital after being shot in the head on Thursday evening.

Landry Oliver, a student at Marlow Elementary, was shot with a .22 rifle at a residence in the 100 block of Zittrouer Road.

Landry Michael Oliver, 9, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014.
Much can be said about the short time of Landry's life here on earth, but his parents were most proud of the enormous, tender heart that God placed into their son. Behind an infectious smile, there was a kind, gentle way living inside him that is rare in this modern world and will be missed by all those that knew him.
This is not an obituary of quantity, but of quality. Simply put, Landry loved life and enjoyed every minute. A great lover of the outdoors, most of the time he could be found there playing with his best friend or a sibling, whether it be baseball, fishing, riding bikes or just rambling. He was also an active, faithful member of his church and loved serving the Savior, whom he had received into his heart on Jan. 10, 2014. AMEN!
Left behind with broken but hopeful hearts, survivors include: parents, Micheal and Vickie Oliver of Guyton; two brothers, Cole and Kason; two sisters, Mackenzie and Alaina, all of Guyton; maternal grandparents, Terry Sexton and Frank Tarlton of Guyton, Earl John Pack Jr. and Dee of Newport, Wash.; paternal grandparents, Steve and Ann Oliver of Murphy, N.C.; maternal great grandparents, James O. Dasher of Guyton and Lula Kinnear of South Carolina; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 5-8 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 3:30 p.m. at Countryside Baptist Church.
Interment to follow at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery with fellowship to follow.
