Jimmy Lynn Spears was born on July 13, 1953 in Austin, Texas, to the union of Lonnie and Marie Spears. He was the first born of two children.

He accepted Christ at an early age where he served as an usher for many years at Simpson United Methodist church. He would rather be a door keeper in the house of the Lord.

Jimmy attended LC Anderson High School where he graduated in 1971, which was the last graduation class of the all-mighty Yellow Jackets. While searching for his career, he was employed with Austin Transit as a bus driver, which is now known as Capital Metro, from 1972-1974. While working at Capital Metro, he was only one of 13 officers who were licensed to drive commercial buses. In 1974, he decided to join the National Guards. Still searching, he meets the beautiful woman of his dreams by the name of Lucille Barnes. Even though they had known each other since 1969, he wasn't successful in his pursuit of marriage. They both did realize that they were meant for each other on July 13, 1978, when they were joined in holy matrimony. Continuing his job search, he became employed with St. Davis Hospital in the Dietary Department from 1978 to 1988. After a lot of praying on job searching, his prayers were answered in 1980 when he graduated in the 62nd Cadet Class with the Austin Police Department in 1980.

While with APD, his assignments included traffic enforcement, court liaison and a walking beat in the Central West Area command. Before he retired, he left his last assignment with the Special Events Unit. During his time with APD, Jimmy received awards such as the Meritorious Unit Citation (Special Events), the Crowd Management Team Campaign Ribbon and the Certificate of Merit. These are just three of many awards he received. He served his community while keeping the peace from within Travis County for 28 years, when he retired in 2008.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Spears; mother, Marie Spears; and grandparents on both sides. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Spears; two children, Amanda and Christina Spears; two grandsons, Keyon Washington and Kiyan Waites; sister, Diane Spears; two brothers, John Satberry (Janet), and Donald Spears (Sherly); two uncles, three aunts, three nieces, four nephews, eleven great-nieces, five great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
