Forest was the son of Otis Milroy Welborn and Mary Alice Seider. I found three children for the couple—Alvin Ray (26 Jan 1883 - 27 Jan 1949), Forest Sylvester (15 Oct 1885 - 27 Aug 1976), and Delores Margaret (17 Jul 1892 or 1893 - 30 Jul 1926).

I found Forest with his family on the 1900 Census, living in Plymouth's West Township, Marshall Co., Indiana. Otis Welborn, aged 37, was a farmer. Mary, aged 36, reported that she had had three children. There with their parents were Alvin, aged 16, Forest, aged 14, and Delores, aged 7.

Forest married Lillie May Carpenter on 10 Jul 1906 in Marshall Co., IN when he was 17 years old. She died of uremic poisoning less than 7 months later. So sad. (Thanks to fellow F.A.G. contributor Barbara Shannon for this info on Forest's first marriage.)

Forest married second-wife Lelia F. Hoover on 23 Mar 1910 in Marshall County. Lelia was the daughter of Jacob Hoover and Ella M. Rhinehart. Forest and Lelia brought two daughters into the world—Pauline (circa 1915) and Dorothy (circa 1917)

Forest and Lelia appeared together on the 1910 Census, living in Plymouth's Center Township. Forest, aged 24, was farming for a living. Lelia, aged 17, had not yet had any children.

On his 1918 WWI draft card, Forest, aged 32, was living and farming in Plymouth. He was described as being of medium height and build, with brown eyes and light hair. He gave wife Lelia as his contact person.

They were still living in Center Township in 1920. Forest, aged 33, was busy farming. Lelia, aged 27, was home with their two daughters—Pauline, aged 5, and Dorothy, aged 3 years and 6 months.

Sadly, on 30 Jul 1926, Forest would have learned of the death of his sister Delores, victim of tuberculosis. She was only 33 years old.

The 1930 Census found them living on Behmer Rd. in Center Township. Forest, aged 43, was busy with the farm. Lelia, aged 37, was home with Pauline, aged 15, and Dorothy, aged 13.

In 1940, they were still living in Center Township. Forest, aged 54, was still farming. Lelia, aged 47, was keeping house. Their nest was empty. After high school, daughter Pauline went to nursing school, and by 1940, she was working as a nurse and rooming with Helen Cupp in Plymouth. Daughter Dorothy married Forrest E. Gantz (couldn't find the record).

On his 27 Apr 1942 WWII draft card, Forest, aged 56, reported that he was living in Plymouth. He measured in at 5'6” tall, and weighed in at 170 lbs., with brown eyes and hair.

The unthinkable happened on 27 Jan 1949 when Forest's brother Alvin fell into a vat of boiling hot water at his place of work and died the following day. The day of his accident was his sixty-fifth birthday.
