Ernie was born in Jersey City NJ (on May 8) and passed peacefully in Oceanside (on 14 March around 1:30 am).
During WWII, he served as a paratrooper from 1942 to 1946. He appears on the cover of the book entitled All American – All the Way: Combat History of the 82nd Airborne in WWII (sitting front row left of center). Although reluctant to discuss combat, he was willing to disclose that he liberated a concentration camp, met the Russians in Berlin, was General Eisenhower's Driver and also served on his Honor Guard.

Ernie married Shirley Witts in 1946 who passed in 1988, and lost his daughter Janet in 2003. While living in Paramus NJ, he worked at Ford Motor Company in Mahwah NJ and operated an automotive service station in Fort Lee NJ. He retired to Toms River NJ, and in 1988 he moved to California to be closer to his son. This is where Ernie met Ruby Christian, who he married in 2003. He was an usher at the Stonebrook and West Coast Baptist Churches and belonged to the Elks for 52 years.
For Ernie, the most important thing was family and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Ernie is survived by his loving wife Ruby, sister Myrtle, son Tom and grandson Thomas Matthew.
