John Woodruff tombstone is still standing.
He was captain of militia in Milford 1750. He and his wife Hannah joined the churchin Milford 18 May 1735. His recorded brand for cattle consisted of "a swallow fork on the left ear, a cross on the right ear, and branded with T on the hip". His will was dated 3 Mar. 1767, proved Mar. 1768. The inventory of his estate 3 Mar. 1768 amounted to L2797-16-03. The will mentioned land in Oxford, Derby, West Haven and Milford, as well as a brick dwelling and a sawmill. This provision is of interest. "Item 15. And also that if either of my children shall try to make disturbance amongst the brothers and sisters, or to brake my will that he or she shall be cut off from all that I give, only five shillings as the law directs.", The will of his widow Sarah was made 29 Dec. 1775.
