He was the son of William and Eliza Jane Ritter Balfour. On October 16, 1941, he married my mothers sister Helen Dunn. He was the father of Janice, Catherine and David, and was survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a sister Maydene Cash, in addition to his wife and children. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leonard and Gene and a sister, Jeanette.
He served during World War II under General George Patton in the 3rd army with the 776th Field Artillery, arriving on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He earned the Bronze Star for service at Basteogne.
He died of Altzheimers disease.

Over the Fourth of July weekend of 2007, a memorial service was held along the Smith River in Douglas County, Oregon. This was the favorite camping, hunting and fishing site for my uncle and his family. Twenty four members of the Balfour family were in attendance as my uncle's ashes were scattered along the river.
