US Congressman. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives from 1799 to 1801 and in 1806, and served in the State Senate in 1810. During the War of 1812, he was a Captain in the Pennsylvania Cavalry and rose to Colonel in command of the 2nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Unsuccessful as a Federalist candidate for Governor in 1814, he was elected to the Eighteenth Congress serving from 1823 to 1825. After his term he engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death.
