Rev. Lowell W. Nicholson, 95, Greentown, peacefully slipped away from life on this earth on Wednesday, October 14 at 1:50 p.m., having been faithful in serving his Lord to receive his Heavenly reward.

Reverend Nicholson was born near Fountain City in Wayne County, Indiana, on July 5, 1920 to Frank Leonard and Lucy (Lindamood) Nicholson.

Reverend Nicholson attended Whitewater High School in Wayne County, graduating as Valedictorian in 1938. He then went on to attend Cleveland Bible College, now Malone University in Canton, Ohio, graduating with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1942. He was a class president or vice president or treasurer each year of college.

He married Esther Mae Lawrence on August 4, 1942 in Portsmouth, Virginia and she preceded him in death on October 16, 1977. He then married Wilda L. Nicholson on October 27, 1979 in Salem, Ohio and she survives.

Reverend Nicholson had worked at Chrysler for 18 years and was a member of UAW Local 685 while pastoring several area churches. Over 50 years he ministered in nine churches. Two were Friends (Quaker) Churches near Hillsborough and West Milton, Ohio; Lynn Friends, Oak Ridge Friends (Fairmount), Poplar Run Friends (Farmland), Sycamore Friends and New Salem Friends (Greentown), Antioch Christian near Swayzee and Hemlock Friends. He was also a member of Sycamore Friends Church. Raised on a farm in Wayne County, Indiana, he was called to preach at an early age and was off to Bible college soon after high school.

He was an ordained minister in the Friends (Quaker) Church. He enjoyed being with his family, "The Singing Nicholson's," when they travelled for 20 years as a family gospel music ministry. He and his wife, Wilda, were active in their retirement years delivering meals to the homebound and needy. His woodworking skills in later years were evidenced by the several wood wall plaques and figures made and given to sons and grandchildren.
