At Wright, last Friday afternoon, Homer Lewis accidentally shot and killed C W Taylor. It appears that Lewis and a companion had set traps for groundhogs in the woods near their home, and had gone out to inspect them, taking their guns along. Taylor followed them, without their knowledge, and while working his way through the weeds and brush in the vicinity of the traps, was seen by Lewis, who getting only a partial glimpse of his grey head as he worked his way through the undergrowth, mistook him for an animal, fired, the shot taking effect in Taylor's head, and causing almost instant death. An examination was held before Justice Trail, which showed conclusively that the shooting was accidental, and no charge was preferred against Lewis.

On last Friday afternoon at Terry, Homer Lewis shot and instantly killed his father-in-law, G W Taylor, while out hunting for a groundhog.
From the best obtainable information concerning the affair, it appears that there had been a groundhog using in the corn field of Mr Taylor and he and his son-in-law had decided to take their guns and kill it. After some time Mr Taylor decided that he would get a steel trap and set it for the animal and went to the house to get it. On returning and while wending his way through the weed Lewis shot and instantly killed his father-in-law.
The affair is a deplorable one as it was accidental and both parties were the best of friends, which was proven upon examination.
When Lewis saw the woods shaking he surmised that it was the groundhog and fired, but to his sorrow, upon going to the object, found that he had blown the head of his father-in-law off.
The remains of the unfortunate man were taken to his home in Virginia the following day where interment was made. These knowing Mr Taylor say that he was an excellent citizen and deplore his untimely death.
