S. Marcus Bone, circuit judge of the Third Judicial District, was born near Barren Fork (now Mt. Pleasant) June 29, 1887. After attending the grade school in his home district, he finished high school at Cave City in 1907. He taught school a couple of years and then entered Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana, from which he graduated in 1911 with the L.L.B. degree. He then moved to Batesville where he still makes his home. He began the practice of law January 1, 1912. He served as state senator from his home district from 1919 to 1924. He was elected circuit judge in 1926, and is now serving his sixth four-year term on the bench. He was presidential elector from the Second Congressional District in 1924.
