Mr. Affinati was the automotive department manager at Sears, Roebuck & Co., Watertown, retiring in 1982. During the 1950s, he was a private investigator and formed the Northern Detective Agency, Watertown.
Born Sept. 30, 1920, in Watertown, son of Augusto and Pia Paloni Affinati, he was a 1939 graduate of Watertown High School, where he had been a wrestling champion.
He joined the Army Air Forces on Aug. 21, 1942, and was trained in Florida, Wisconsin and Kansas to be a radio mechanic before going to England. He was later transferred to the 1109th Signal Co. and participated in the Normandy invasion.
He continued to fight in France and Germany before his discharge Oct. 20, 1945, at Fort Dix, N.J. While in Nancy, France, he was able to arrange a reunion with his brother, the late Francis Affinati, and brother-in-law, the late Harry Spicer.
He served in the New York National Guard until retiring in 1983 at the rank of major.
He married Berdella "Della" Card of Lacona on June 10, 1995, at Sandy Creek. The couple lived in Lacona all their married life. He was previously married to Jeanne Sowerby.
Mr. Affinati enjoyed a collection of classic cars and was a member of the Pathfinder Antique Auto Club and the Edsel Club. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 7364, Adams, and American Legion Post 61, Watertown, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8534.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, John A., Syracuse; two daughters, Janet K. LaHair, Watertown, and Mary E. Sabo, Hamilton, N.J.; a stepson, David A. Card, Adams; seven stepdaughters, Terry L. Card, Atlanta, Ga., Linda L. Harris, Wilmington, N.C., Deborah A. Towles, Cynthia M. Maitland and Yvonne A. Rudd, all of Adams, Vivian L. Hilton, Pulaski, and Janice G. Knight, Winter Park, Fla.; a brother, Dominic, Watertown; two sisters, Mary Spicer, Watertown, and Lucy Peters, New Hartford; 27 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A sister, Giovannina, and a grandson died before him. Another brother died in infancy.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia's Church, Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown.
