Esther Ann (Hardesty) Yohon, 98, of Yates Center, Kansas, passed away early Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.
She was born January 3, 1917, in Woodson County, Kansas, the daughter of Dan and Barbara (Walter) Hoag. She was a life-long resident of Woodson County.
Esther and John Richard “Dick” Hardesty were married at the St. Mary’s Owl Creek Catholic Church east of Yates Center. They became the parents of seven children.
Her husband, Dick, preceded her in death on May 14, 1956, at the age of 40, due to an accidental drowning.
Following Dick’s death Esther went to work at the Ben Franklin Store in downtown Yates Center which later became the Rite Buy store where she worked for a number of years.
Esther married John A. “Bud” Yohon. Bud preceded her in death on July 9, 1977.
Esther was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yates Center and the Altar Society. She had also been a member of the Sunflower Quilt Guild.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Lee Hardesty, and three infant siblings.
She leaves her children, Serita Theis and husband Jack, Wichita, Carole Baxter, Yates Center, Virginia Dillman and husband Ken, Eagle Point, Oregon, Donald Hardesty and wife Diane, Grants Pass, Oregon, Janie Riggs and husband Pete, Wichita, and Ruthie Zimmerman and husband Max, Chanute; XX grandchildren; XX great-grandchildren; XX great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 24, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yates Center. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 A.M. Saturday prior to the service. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Owl Creek Cemetery east of Yates Center.
