Samuel Padfield and his two brothers came to America for opportunity. Here they found their way to Utah, hiring out as coal miners. Coal has always been known as a cruel taskmaster but the lure of an immeadiate job and pay was enticeing to Samuel, his brothers and many other frontier men. Winter Quarters #4, a coal mine exploded on May 1st, 1900. Nearly every one underground was killed.
