Sadly, in 1851, her husband, Thomas Caves Jr., died at approximately the same time as his father, Thomas Caves Sr.. It appears that the young widow abandoned her children with their grandmother, Frances (Fanny) Davis Caves, where they remained on the family homestead until 1858 upon Fanny's death.
It also appears that Rebecca Cave remarried to Thomas Jefferson Waggoner on 18 May 1853 in Dubois County, Indiana. Jeff Waggoner already had been married and had lost his first wife. Rebecca appears to have died sometime between 1853 when they were married, and Waggoner's third marriage to Elizabeth Nance on 25 Apr 1858 in Martin County, IN.
Her gravesite is unknown, but is suspected to be in Martin County, IN.
