Doris, my "Aunt Darsy" was a person with a wicked sense of humor who told it like it was. She was sweet and loving, but suffered no fools and would be the first to tell you if you were making one of yourself. She could be tough, but had to be because she endured some hard times. She was a well-loved and popular member of her family and had many friends. She grew up in the South and had five kids and numerous grandkids. She'd greatly looked forward to the birth of her great-granddaughter, but passed away the day before the baby was born.

She was the daughter of Grover Edwin Ford and Meldie Mae (Fulgham) Ford. Her five children are Lynda, Reggie, Patti, Marie, and Donna.

My favorite story about Aunt Darsy is when her daughter got a bad haircut and kept complaining that she looked like a squirrel. Aunt Darsy soon tired of hearing these complaints, and set a plate of acorns and a bowl of water in front of my cousin at the dinner table, saying, "Here, since you keep saying you look like a squirrel, I thought you would enjoy these." She lived for a number of years in a haunted house in Mathiston, Mississippi, but her attitude was that if the ghosts left her alone, she'd do the same for them. She always wanted to be a singer, was a romantic, and loved flowers, travel, music, and books. Merle Haggard was "the handsomest man [she'd] ever seen."
