Funeral services for Horace G. Barnes, 69, a retired steeple jack painter, were at 3 p.m. today from the chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with the Rev. Tillman Mays and the Rev Paul Clark officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens. Mr. Barnes died at 1:15 a.m. Monday in the Veterans Hospital in Memphis following a long illness. He was born and reared in Fayette, Ala., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mack Barnes, and had lived here since 1929. Mr. Barnes was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and belonged to the John A. Deaver American Legion Post and Preston Street Baptist Church.
