James Pierce "Sonny" Barnes, 74, of Burkburnett, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Simons, officiating. The Marine Corps Honor Guard played taps.

A son of the late J.P. and Edna (Reynolds) Barnes, Sonny was born on February 7, 1940 in Brown County, Texas. He served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp in the 1st Division, Company F, 2nd Battalion attaining the rank of E3. He married Sue Armstrong in 1962 and together they had 3 children but later divorced. On February 14, 1984, he married Drucilla Harrell in Burkburnett. Sonny & Dru loved the outdoors, spent many hours fishing and he was an avid Tournament Bass Fisherman. He also loved fast boats, old style hotrods, and hanging out at the Burk Diner visiting with his friends.

Sonny was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Faye Banes, and Mildred Barnes Roe.

He is survived by his wife, Drucilla Barnes of Burkburnett; his children, Rick Allen Barnes, Teri Re'Na Barnes Kocsis, Kasey Lynn Barnes Ross all of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Kimberly Ann Brown Bearden of Burkburnett; siblings, Eddie Ray Barnes and wife Da'Onne, Juanita B. Bailey, Lucy B. Keith, and Bobby Daniels; grandchildren, Brenna Ross, Britton Ross, Bailey Nicole Brown, Blaine Jackson Bearden, Dustin Kocsis, Nicholas Kocsis, Candice Anne Barnes, Shyan Sue Barnes, Garrett Allen Barnes, and Zackary James Barnes; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his wishes, Sonny's ashes were later interred at the foot of his father-in-law's grave (Nathan H. Harrell) in Burkburnett Cemetery.
