James "Jimmy" Wyse Tilley, 81, of Sulphur passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at his residence. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Don Walker officiating. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery of Carlyss. The family will receive friends on Tuesday in the funeral home from 4 – 9pm and will resume Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Jimmy was born June 30, 1934 in Oberlin. His family moved to Sulphur when he was thirteen in 1948. He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church, ordained deacon in 2003. He was active in ministry work for 50 years. Jimmy was a member of Local 406 Operator Engineers for 50 years. In 1972 he started his own business, Tilley's Backhoe Service, until retirement.
He is survived by his children, James Tilley and wife Janet, Connie Bush and husband Randy, Jackie Guidry and Nell Portie all of Sulphur; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Beverly Burleson Tilley, married for 59 years; parents Benjamin and Winnie Margery Bell Tilley; son-in-law, Tony Guidry; and grandson Daniel Ardoin; five sisters, Irona Fontenot; Edna Croak, Margery Latiolois Hagen, Charleen Roy Friedl, Nell Soileau; and two brothers, L.H.
